From my earliest memories of story time as a Head Start pre-k student to my law degree at the University of Houston, forty years later, I am the beneficiary of high quality teaching in public schools. As a former classroom teacher, I have a deep understanding of a teacher's power to lead and mold young minds. As a parent of three Spring ISD scholars, I know we're trending in the right direction as we honor our promise to help scholars acquire the knowledge, tools, and critical thinking skills to be thoughtful, productive, contributors to our community and nation, while thriving in a competitive global society.
As your trustee, I know we must continue to improve and do better for our kids and community, and this is why I am running for re-election as Spring ISD Trustee, Position 4. There is still more work to do, and I'm excited about the opportunity to continue and enhance the positive trends in our district.
My service is a testament to the positive power of public education. I was inspired to become a teacher by my high school math teacher, Ms. Elois Irvin. I saw first hand the impact a caring committed teacher can have on children and families. Ms. Irvin taught more than just math, she exemplified the transformative power of education to confront issues of equity and social justice.
Our children deserve the same care and commitment demonstrated by Ms. Irvin at every level of the district. As your trustee, I recognize this commitment starts with the Board of Trustees and must extend throughout our district. To this end, I took it upon myself to learn and grow as much as possible. My personal commitment to the growth and continuous improvement of Spring ISD culminated in my recent graduation from the 2020 Leadership TASB Cohort, earning the title of Master Trustee.
As a board, we must continue to provide energetic and enthusiastic oversight, tempered with wisdom and empathy, to insure key imperatives and performance indicators are met. We must continue to hold the administration and staff accountable while providing them with the resources and support to excel. We will continue to prioritize funding for Out of School Time programs, college, military, and career readiness, early childhood and special education, dual language programs, and staff professional development and compensation with a focus on equity for all stakeholders in the community.
As your Spring ISD Trustee for Position 4, I need your support and input as we increase our focus on safety, achievement, and equity, in Spring ISD. I remain committed to increased community engagement and serving all children holistically as we raise our expectations at every level of the district across all campuses.
This is why I am asking for your support, your voice, and your vote for the Spring ISD Board of Trustees, Position 4 on Tuesday, November 3rd.
